Carolyn and Claire came over this morning and we went to, The Daily Grind, for breakfast. It's a neat very busy restaurant only a block from my house.
Today I am celebrating. 26 years ago today I stopped drinking.
After trying for several years , I was having lunch with Connie Halpin. We had just ordered martinis, as my came I said to myself, "this is the last drink I am going to have". It was.
Carolyn called me last night to tell me this conversation.
Finn: "Mom, how come every time Nana says,"shit" she says ,"sorry".
Carolyn: "because its a bad word".
Finn: "What does it mean"?
Carolyn:" Poop"
Finn" "Oh".

Congratulations to my sis for her continuing sobriety! As a former 3-pack-a-day smoker, I know how very difficult it is to break an addiction. When you get to Jersey, I'm going to take you out to dinner to celebrate those 26 years. (You'd better drive because I plan to toast you with a glass of wine.)
Thanks for the kind words and invite.
I will drive so you don't get a DUI.
Betty,
That's fantastic. I think it's amazing how we seem to arrive at a point where we just 'do it'.
I stopped smoking the same way...tried several times and finally reached that point saying "I'm never going to smoke again". I didn't. That was 24 yrs ago. I hope I reach that point about cutting out some junk foods. No need to badger ourselves tho...it'll happen in due course...if I live long enough..LOL.
Again, Congrats!
Loved the interaction with Finn. It's strange that many folks think those kinds of words are not for children to hear.....I think words such as the 'N' word are the harmful words packed with attitude that stay with a child.
'Shit' is a great word and 'poop' aint all that bad either.
I prefer "SONOFABITCH" or even just "BITCH," said with vigor when something goes wrong. (I don't mean aimed at a person.)
I think the 'F' word is a good one ...I've been heard to use it once or twice. So there.
